  Ordered an 8 inch bakery cake for a small family birthday party. The cake was excellent. My 10 year old nephew rated it 5/5 and even my mother, who is hard to impress with food, thought it was good.

  We were married at a winery in Northern Virginia in May 2016. Lora at Gateau made two cakes for us - a four tier wedding cake and a single tier groom's cake. This review is for both cakes. Overall we give Lora five stars and would definitely use her again. However, we wanted to address the different aspects that go into this review.
  
  - Cake Taste and Quality (Five Stars) - We tried many different wedding cakes and Lora's cakes are the best. For the wedding cake we had three flavors - voodoo, chocolate, and carrot - and all three were amazing. All of the layers were so moist and flavorful! Many of our guests told us that this was the best wedding cake they have ever tasted. We had some cake leftover and the cake tasted great even a week after the wedding. Lora simply makes the most delicious cakes you have ever tasted;
  
  - Customer Service, Setup and Delivery (Five Stars) - Lora has amazing customer service. She checked in with us and was highly responsive to any emails. She delivered and set up the cakes exactly when she said that she would. Everything was timely and professional and she took care of everything;
  
  - Design of the Groom's Cake (Five Stars) - The design of the groom's cake was amazing! It is exactly what my now husband wanted. The cake was a home plate with a Washington Nationals cap and ball on top. The hat was made of sugar and it looked like it had just come off of a player's head. My nine-year-old nephew could not believe it was not a real cap and ball. The level of detail was amazing;
  
  - Fondant on the Wedding Cake (Four Stars) - Since my wedding cake was four tier, fondant is a necessary and important aspect of the cake's design. We tried many types of fondant's and Lora's fondant is one of the best. I believe that she imports it from Europe. We tried it before the wedding and thought it was pretty good. However, it's still fondant and I'm not sure that any of our guests ate much of it but that was the only thing left on their plates;
  
  - Wedding Cake Design (Three Stars) - I had pictures of a very intricate design with bright colors and a tight paisley pattern that cuts across the four tiers. When we met with Lora, she indicated that she had never done this design before but she would attempt to replicate it. The cake we received was very pretty with paisley and bright colors. However, the paisley pattern was a bit more whimsical than I had imagined. The pattern was not as tightly followed as I thought it might be. However, I want to emphasize that the design template was extremely difficult and I was not displeased with the cake we received. No one but me and my husband thought that the design was anything but perfect.
  
  Overall, Lora is an excellent choice to do any wedding cake. We give her five stars and would recommend her to anyone!
